Hear Brigid Reynolds Speak on Alzheimer’s Clinical Trials

Brigid Reynold, NP at the Georgetown University Hospital’s Memory Disorders Program, will speak to the memorycafe4u group at 2PM on September 4, 2014 at Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church, 1301 Trap Rd, Vienna, VA. She will speak about current clinical studies focusing on Alzheimer’s disease. In particular, she will speak about the new A4 study, a study for older (65 to 85) individuals who may be at risk for memory loss due to Alzheimer’s disease. The A4 study is investigating a new drug intervention that may reduce the impact of ‘beta amyloid’ forming plaques in the brain. The A4 aniti-amyloid investigational drug targets amyloid build up in the brain with the aim of slowing memory loss associated with the development of Alzheimer’s. Brigid will also discuss other clinical trials and answer questions about Alzheimer’s disease.

Brigid Reynolds joined the Memory Disorders Program in 2001. She received her Masters of Science in Nursing from the Catholic University of America in 1996 and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Emory University in 1989. Brigid is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Prior to joining the Memory Disorders Program Brigid’s career focused on home care, primary care, and case management for elderly patients. Presently she is on Faculty at Georgetown University where she specializes in evaluating and treating patients with memory problems and is a Research Investigator conducting clinical trials of potential new treatments for Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders.

Picnic at Meadowlard Gardens – Thursday, July 31

This coming Thursday, July 31st we will meet at Meadowlark Gardens between 12 and 12:30 p.m. for a picnic.

The Gardens are located at: 9750 Meadowlark Ct. Vienna, VA.

We usually bring a sandwich and drink for lunch, (or whatever you like). Dessert will be provided. Mainly we just like to socialize, but you may also like to visit the Gardens. The Visitors Center with restrooms, a gift shop and exhibits is conveniently located next to the picnic area. The cost to tour the Gardens is $2.50. There is no charge to park or use the picnic area.

Directions: From our meeting place at Andrew Chapel Church go west on Rt. 7 in the left lane for about a mile.
Take a left on Beulah Road. Go 2.3 miles. When you cross over the Rt. 66 bridge you will start to
see the Gardens on your right.
Take a right into the main entrance.
Don’t park on the right, continue a little bit and go into the parking area on your left.
Look for my car, a white Honda sedan. You’ll see an archway into the picnic area.
Park and go through the arch, we’ll be in the wisteria covered pavilion.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
